ADAM was made to be "Khalifa(Vicegerent) on Earth" - he had to come - regardless - he had that forbidden food item or not- so eating so called Apple was not a pre-determined or destined act - but purely Adam's own choice - and not a REASON to punish him and send him and Eve to earth - they were made for Earth as Quran mentions- see Comments on this Blog for Quran's referenced verses in this regard - most of our fate (ALLAH has only two pre-determined fate for each human being - his/her Rizk and time of his/her Death -the rest is result of our own ACTIONS) is (even written as HE knows things before)a direct result of our own actions/decisions - otherwise HE will never punish us for HIS predetermined fate/divine plan - than whole idea of Saza/Jaza becomes unfair and unjust. A murderer would have a Excuse - what I could do - it was written in my fate - I will murder someone - ALLAH knows what will happen since HE knows Things of Future also -but believe me - HE never interferes in human decision of chosing RIGHT or Wrong once HE has shown both - otherwise HE would be naozibillah - the most UNFAIR and UNJUST - for punishing people for doing wrong but which HE has already decided and written for them - THINGS happen not because HE KNOWS how they will happen but because HOW "WE" MAKE THEM HAPPEN - HE only knows before since knowing Khaslat(nature) of our Nafs(Self) -how it will behave but HE helps to make KHASLAT(nature) better if someone is willing and strive and pray to HIM to keep it on Right Path.

My Comments: Most Welcome 2 Saudi Arabia - I was born here as an expatriate child. Grew up here. Lived all my life here. I have 2 give my Life back 2 the CREATOR - so will tell honestly and without any Bias or fear - Saudi Arabia is not as presented in media by some vested interests. It is not a horror place as being portrayed by author of this piece of s....Come 2 Saudi Arabia and see the difference. Even with all its weaknesses, "this is the Best Place on Earth to live and raise your children." This is not my statement but of a white christian American working over here and not a public statement to please any one but an honest confession. Saudi Arabia - may not be an Ideal Muslim sate - on Utopia scale - but the best blend of East & West. The most peaceful country in world with less than 1% crime rate. I feel so secure here - 100 times more secure than living in Pakistan.

This country has lost its Balance. So clash of institutions and personalities is very much “natural” in this condition. The chaos and confusion will stay or even flare up as I don’t see any thing sensible happening in this country for some time to come. There is drought and shrubs have started assuming they are the main crop of the “season”. But the real crop is awaiting plantation after soil is made fertile for it.

I feel like I wrote it. The current situation of Muslims is very well portrayed in a very concise manner. One who are silent on Oppression are equally criminal as an Oppressor. We should not seek any ones help or whine for not having one but seek the help of ALMIGHTY ONE. ALLAH has left us on the mercy of gods on earth since we developed more fear of them than fear of HIM. HE has lifted all HIS mercy and all HIS blessings from Muslims. Millions pray in Mecca & Medina during Ramadan and at Haj time – crying, weeping and praying for Muslims’s success. But more decline. Have we ever thought why ALLAH is not with Muslims and not answering their prayers or not saving them from humiliation and persecution. The only reason is we are more Hypocrite than we are some Muslim. We have more fear of gods on earth than the ONE ALMIGHTY GOD. We live dual life and do all from which we were stooped and have stopped doing for which we were ordained to do. We had to practice Islam’s teaching and become a Role Model for mankind to follow – true Guiding Nation carrying Message of ALLAH as we promised him at Hajatul Wida (Arafat) that we will carry the message and deliver to those who were not present there. How well we have carried it and how we are delivering it. If mankind has not benefited from Islam; it is only because of Muslim. How ALLAH’s support and blessing will come for such a DOUBLE CRIMINALS – not following Islam and than becoming such a bad example of Islam Followers that World has not started hating Muslims but Islam. Pity, Islam is now Garib ul Watan, just like Palestinians. And we are silent and insensitive to this. How dare we watch the games and listen music when cancer has spread in whole body and our death is written on wall. When we will stop self-deception and fooling our self when the world has declared as unwanted Fools. Teri Burbadi k Charchey hain Aasmanon par. There is a little grace period left for repentance and to have our house in order. When is Pakistan’s next match and when is second episode of Coke Studio? Tranquilizers for a dying nation and which is foolishly believing – We will miraculously rise and some Messiah will come for our rescue. ALLAH never help those who are their own enemies. And we don’t need any external threat. We are our own biggest Threat. There is no need for War Against Islam. Muslims are doing it at their worst. That is why it is slow death. Slow and painful. There is still grace period to survive and come out safe but are we going to avail it. That is more than Trillions dollar question. As the survival of whole mankind is linked to our fate. We may be the cause of – wind up of whole show on earth – THE END.

My Comments: What we need to teach our kids is Good and Bad sides of each thing and merits of staying Good and demerits if lured by Wrong. We can't strictly discipline our children in this age by "guarding" them 24 hours a day but we can teach them Self Discipline by which they will guard themselves. And this article is a positive attempt to raise awareness among kids to surf safe and secure by using all available tools and methods to maintain their privacy.

But your analysis and solutions give a hint that at least your own kids and students will benefit from your guidance and will not indulge in such "friendships". But this is just one of the spirtual and moral ailments of our times and price for keeping ALLAH and HIS divine guidance as a low priority in our preferences. The moral decay in our society is result of that and brought chaos in all spehers of our lives. The need of time is not political or economic leaders but social reformers who can put us back on right track. Otherwise, all solutions are known but will stay ineffective as they are so far. The real peace in our lives and world can not be realized until we place ALLAH in HIS right position. #1 in our Life! If money and pleasure are #1 & #2 on our life charts, then we should learn to be content with the demerits of "the package where ALLAH is not our #1 GUIDING FORCE". The mankind will stay lost in chaos of all types until not decide to sincerely follow the DIVINE GUIDANCE.

Nonetheless, I appreciate your concern and providing an opportunity to ponder on causes of our "unhealthy lifestyle". This was just one of the many we have but solution to all is - Return to path of ALLAH. The muslims were supposed to be role model by practicing this Divine Guidance and show the world the real life virtues but alas we have not done our assigned role and fallen from grace which was promised for Muslims - the people on Right Modest Path. But we should at least practice it in our own lives and keep on spreading the word - not by mere words but by our actions. Let people see the benefits and follow it for their own benefit.

Panacea to solve present problems

I am a beneficiary of Pakistan. Whatever I have achieved or acquired is because of Pakistan. Therefore, if I sound ‘Jazbati’ or upbeat, you will please excuse me. There is a lot of despondency and despair visible in Pakistan and it is not without any basis. Most of the people I meet are deeply concerned and asked me what is happening and what is going to happen. The very fact that such a question is being put makes me unhappy.Let me start from the beginning to understand the present. Constitution is the ‘ROOH of a nation’ and an independent Judiciary is its heart. It is the Constitution which ensures well being and fundamental basic rights of its people.In a federation like Pakistan, where one unit is larger than three others combined together it is the Constitution that holds the country together. The vital importance of the Constitution cannot, therefore, be underestimated; we call it the basic law, the fundamental law - the mother of all institutions. We wasted 26 long years before we gave the country its fundamental law, the basic law - the consensus 1973 Constitution. And prior to that we shot one prime minister who had played principal role in the creation of Pakistan; lost more than half the country without shedding even a silent tear and committed judicial murder of another prime minister ZAB, the author of 1973 Constitution.And look what we have done to this Constitution, notwithstanding its Article-5, which states that it is inviolable duty of every citizen of Pakistan, whether residing in or out of Pakistan, to obey the Constitution. Its Article-6 provides that abrogation of Constitution is high treason. Notwithstanding this article, one military dictator General Ziaul Haq considered the basic law a trash of paper and ruled the country in its total violation for over 10 years and in the process murdered the first elected prime minister of Pakistan - the author of 1973 Constitution. He amended the Constitution according to his whims. In fact, he mutilated and deformed the Constitution.This was followed by yet another decade of military rule under General Musharraf, when the basic document was held in abeyance, as was earlier done by General Ayub, make the judiciary subservient. Right from 5th of July 1977 upto 3rd March 2008 we had military judiciary axis. It may be noticed that in real terms, only two general elections were held under the 1973 Constitution, firstly, by ZAB and secondly, by Musharraf, the latter on his own terms. Of course there were four elections held in-between when Benazir and Nawaz Sharif each won twice, but they were not allowed to complete their terms and to my mind, therefore, these elections are to be ignored.Just imagine, 60 years of Pakistan and only two general election! In other words, we halted political process and people were deprived of their right to choose their own representatives. There are no born democrats and political workers were denied existence by suppression of trade unions and the student unions. The political process that started in February 2009 must continue and military rule must be eliminated for all times to come. We are fortunate that we have today not only an independent judiciary, but that judiciary has ordained that hereafter there will be no abeyance or abrogation of the Constitution much less its validation. There is, therefore, no room for military intervention or military adventure.The fact that we have a “Luli Langri” democracy today should not come to us as a surprise. We never had, except for one occasion, sustained political process, which is a must for political and economic empowerment of people. It is political process, alone which results in political stability and economic progress, which alone ensures the people their basic rights. We were denied our rights and the occasions to fight for our ordinary human rights much less rights guaranteed under the Constitution.The recent decision of the Supreme Court on the Army Welfare Trust Plot at Karachi is a great step forward. For the first time the Supreme Court has, amongst other things, invited our attention to the forgotten Article-38 of the Constitution which obliges the government to give us good governance for the welfare of the people. There will be no life after democracy, if Article-38 is not implemented. A lot of controversy has been raised on NRO, on the question of appointment of judges and the relationship between the executive and the judiciary. To my mind, judiciary and executive are two pillars of the same building and there is no room for any conflict.Why should raising of these issues be of so much concern that fear is being expressed, that these issues will have disastrous consequences and that we will have reached a point of no return. Each organ of the state must perform its function in accordance with the Constitution, for, after all, the Constitution is the supreme law of the land. The NRO judgment must be implemented in letter and spirit un-conditionally. All that is required is that action be taken in terms of the judgment, namely, the government must commence actions within the country and in relation to cases pending abroad, forward a copy of the Supreme Court judgment with a request that the cases, if closed, may be re-opened. It is upto the foreign courts then to take action permissible under the laws in force in that country. In so far as the cases within Pakistan are concerned, unless President Zardari waives immunity he will have protection under Article-248, but in so far as foreign courts are concerned, his request, if any, will be dealt with in accordance with laws in force in that country. As to appointment of judges and the controversy raised in relation thereto, what is needed is honest implementation, without any ifs or buts and without any mental reservations.

One view is that the best judge is the chief justice. While the other is that seniority must prevail in appointment of judges. These differences can always be resolved, if not by past precedents, by laying down new precedents, which eliminate discrimination - the mother of all evils.That, however, is not the end of the matter, for we have larger problems affecting the people of Pakistan as a whole. Some people say that nearly two years have passed and we do not see any ray of hope. No doubt people have a right to be impatient. After all we have denied them their right to good governance for decades and they have, therefore, right to be impatient. They want results, promised by the leaders. They are demanding their long denied rights. We must try and appreciate their impatience. Some people say that most of these problems would not have arisen, if Mr Zardari had not been the President of Pakistan. Irrespective of its truth or otherwise, the fact remains that election of Mr Zardari as President was, if not unconstitutional, against the spirit of the Constitution. A president is president of Pakistan. He represents the unity of the nation. He should not belong to, much less be leader of, a political party, which is effectively in power. Furthermore, there is talk of balance of power between the president and the prime minister. This negates the 1973 Constitution and gives an impression that 17th Amendment is not altogether irrelevant. The 17th Amendment must go. Look at the problems created in Punjab by the discretionary power used by the president in appointing - to say the least, not so independent governor. The concurrent list must go immediately to empower the provinces. These are not new demands, they have already been agreed to by the premier parties including the most respected Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto that these amendments, introduced by General Musharraf, should be eliminated from the Constitution. Why have these amendments been linked to other amendments which are controversial which has resulted in inordinate delay. It is said that the requisite majority in the National Assembly is not available. If these amendments are immediately introduced, we will know, who stands where and we will be able to distinguish between democrats and so-called democrats.Our experience, past and immediate present, require following steps to be taken:-1. Open government. A new freedom of Information Act with meaningful provisions. Open government equally for the benefit of government for there will be no room for unfounded allegations against the government; 2. A general amnesty to all Pakistanis, more particularly the holders of public office and their dependents to bring back all their foreign assets within a specified time and failure to do so to result in punishment, minimum 15-year rigorous imprisonment; 3. No out of turn promotion, seniority to be respected. 4. Military to be treated like any other departments of government with no right to carry on any business, not connected with military requirements. 5. No allotment of plots to holders of public office;6. Holders of public office to be given locally assembled cars;7. Re-introduction of Wealth Tax;8. Re-introduction of Capital Gains Tax;9. Compulsory voting; 10. Defamation Law (Section 500 PPC) to be restored, amendments made by Zia to be deleted;11. No extension in service; 12. Visible reduction in Govt. expenditure. All information relating to expenditure made available to the public; 13. Cabinet to consist of no more than 15 Ministers;14. Minimum foreign trips; 15. No leader in exile;16. No ostentatious living;17. Every holder of public office to file copies of their income tax returns to which every citizen will have access with liberty to raise objections;18. FBR to publish list of all tax payers, occupation or profession wise.19. Discretionary funds to be disclosed including how the same is spent; 20. Since people have been deprived of their right to vote for too long, the life of their assemblies should be four years instead of five years.21. No nominated woman’s seat in the National Assembly. Women seats to be filled in by the female voters with liberty to women to contest general seats. 22. Genuine autonomy to institutions;23. Equal compulsory education to all to be achieved within a specified time;24. Expenditure incurred on holders of public office to be disclosed from time to time, not less than once a year;25. Duty of the government to provide gainful employment and necessities of life at reasonable prices; A time to be specified within which this obligation will be performed; The aforesaid suggestions are not new. It is equally known that good governance is possible only if the government implements above suggestions. Government expenditure to be reduced to the minimum to enable achievement of above objectives.The aforesaid suggestions are made in all humility. It is my considered view that since we have denied these rights for so long while the rich have become richer, the delay in its implementation will only augment our problems and Pakistan will have lost its meaning - just a dot on World Atlas.It is the duty of the press and the civil society to press for realization of the above demands. At least there should be effective think tanks, who can analyse the aforesaid demands with a view to its possible implementation at the earliest. We can no longer afford to remain silent. In the past we have done no more than ‘Tabla Bajana’. Now is the time to carry out our inviolable duty to obey the Constitution, as provided in Article-5 of the Constitution and insist upon the government to take serious note of Article-38 of the Constitution.

My Comments: I don't know how I missed this earlier while debate was on. It got my attention because of title - The Root of Our Ills - and listed under TOP POSTS. I wish there was a HOPELESS POSTS category also to list this post their.

All institutions in Pakistan are at the moment deteriorated to the extent that one can easily believe their non-existence. The Army is the least damaged and strongest of the weak institutions. That is why they always come forward and fill the GAP created by corrupt and inefficient politicians and bureaucrats. They are forced to fight "wars" against their "own bad people" by Man in Charge (could be one of their military man turned Statesman) - be it was in East Pakistan, Sindh or Baluchistan.

I think this debate went to weeds while searching for Roots. The root cause is lack of loyalty with a Common Cause - or let's say even Absence of a Common Cause. The cause in corporate lingo is Mission.

I believe our national Mission at the moment is Self Interests. Be it a self interest of a corrupt politician or a General or a institution. We are not thinking and acting like One Nation - One cause. We are so divided and all moving to different directions with different motives and all finger pointing all others for moving in wrong direction.

COME to one RIGHT PATH. This is a solution of all our ills and AVOIDING it is The Root of Our Ills.

All who matter need to sit together and agree on ONE RIGHT PATH for this nation. Until then all are wandering in Lost Wilderness and causing more and more Chaos for this Confused Nation and blame game is the only game Pakistanis are winning at the moment.

P.S. The cricket wins were a smoke screen consolation wins for this deprived and desperate nation but Kangaroos have also stolen that away. Now we need to play some paper tigers like Bangladesh to come out of Loss depression.

My Comments: As good human beings, we all tend to be sympathetic and helpful all in distress. We have seen this over and over. These natural calamities reminds mankind how weak and helpless they are despite all the technological power at their hand. Misery like Earthquake doesn't show God's displeasure to victims and others who are safe, not necessarily Lord is happy with them. JUDGMENT day verdict will be FINAL and these earthquakes are reminders of THE DAY. The Holy Quran repeatedly reminds us of The END. The following verses from Chapter 39 (The Throngs - Al Zumar) describes about THE DAY and aftermath;

And [on that Day,] the trumpet [of judgment] will be sounded, and all [creatures] that are in the heavens and all that are on earth will fall down senseless, unless they be such as God wills [to exempt]. And then it will sound again - and lo! standing [before the Seat of Judgment], they will begin to see [the truth]! (68) And the earth will shine bright with her Sus tainer’s light. And the record [of everyone’s deeds] will be laid bare, and all the prophets will be brought forward, and all [other] witnesses; and judgment will be passed on them all in justice. And they will not be wronged, (69) for every human being will be repaid in full for whatever [good or evil] he has done: and He is fully aware of all that they do. (70) And those who were bent on denying the truth will be urged on in throngs towards hell till, when they reach it, its gates will be opened, and its keepers will ask them, “Have there not come to you apostles from among yourselves, who conveyed to you your Sustainer’s messages and warned you of the coming of this your Day [of Judgment]?” They will answer: “Yea, indeed!” But the sentence of suffering will [already] have fallen due upon the deniers of the truth; (71) [and] they will be told, “Enter the gates of hell, therein to abide!” And how vile an abode for those who were given to false pride! (72) But those who were conscious of their Sus tainer will be urged on in throngs towards paradise till, when they reach it, they shall find its gates wide- open; and its keepers will say unto them, “Peace be upon you! Well have you done: enter, then, this [paradise], herein to abide!” (73) And they will exclaim: “All praise is due to God, who has made His promise to us come true, and has bestowed upon us this expanse [of bliss] as our portion, so that we may dwell in paradise as we please!” And how excellent a reward will it be for those who laboured [in God’s way]! (74) And thou wilt see the angels surrounding the throne of [God’s] almightiness, extolling their Sus tainer’s glory and praise. And judgment will have been passed in justice on all [who had lived and died], and the word will be spoken: “All praise is due to God, the Sustainer of all the worlds!” (75) May ALLAH keeps us on THE RIGHT PATH and be pleased with us. Amen!

Do you think Pakistanis should be excluded from new US airport security measures?
No! If Pakistanis have some self-respect left they should stop going US but stop whining. They deserve the humiliating treatment by virtue of “their actions”. The “outcry” and “begging” will not waive them from “watchful list”. If they still can’t survive without visiting US then what is wrong in screening.

Shaista – I enjoyed reading your another master-piece and of a level like reading – A Tale of Two Cities. So here is a Tale of two Generations. Yes, every generation is technologically better than the past and they should be to survive in their age. But are they also having better values and ethics? That is a crucial question. The individual kids – likes of your son – will have it – thanks to Ideal Mothers like you. But on a whole each new generation heralds – End of Innocence and Advent of Cruelty – in a “evolutionary” way. The decline of heritage is absolute but rise of Tech and abundance of Tech Toys is obvious. But as long the women of your substance are there, the hope is alive – YOUR SON WILL BE SAVIOR from curses of Godless Technology and he will one day find OUR THIEVES on Google or get an Idea from BING – how to save Mother’s assets. My prays for him to be a savior of our Motherland and her wealth. May ALLAH bless you both and all good Pakistanis and let all be Good Pakistanis. Excellent (no! Even in today’s digital world, I am very proud to say that my kids barely watch tv during the week. Internet is allowed for only 30 minutes and the rest of the time is spent eating mom’s brains out! We do try going bike riding and also sometimes kick the soccer ball in the garden. My kids are 9, nearly 7 and 1 I know this will change soon…I cherish it while it lasts

This is very sad. So many lives lost on new year. Just imagine the feelings of families who lost their dear ones. May ALLAH gives sense to all and bring peace in region & whole world. Poor Afghans have also suffered a lot in this invasion of their country. Only a day before Foreign troops dragged 10 civilians from homes and shot them dead. Americans have no moral ground to "win this war". They may claim one but it is not winning the hearts and minds of people. It is just escalating CHAOS in the region.

When Jerusalem was conquered in 635 AD, the second caliph Omar Ibn Al-Khattab refused to pray in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, despite an invitation from the Christian patriarch Sophronius, for fear that his men invoke the precedent to turn the place of worship into a mosque and thus deprive the Christians of their right to freely practice their religion.

Although 1,400 years have passed, people were sometimes more civilised and more tolerant then than in our modern world, where passions and tensions seem to have translated into a return of fanaticism and religious intolerance.

The example set by Omar, the inventor of dhimmitude, the code governing the life of non-Muslims under Islamic law, is symbolic of the covenant bearing his name, which granted the "People of the Book" (a term which refers to Jews and Christians) the right to live on Muslim-majority or Muslim-ruled lands and possess their own places of worship.

Is it possible to imagine Jerusalem, Aleppo, Cairo, Baghdad, Damascus, Tunis, Algiers, Casablanca, without their lace-like filigree of church towers, minarets and sometimes synagogue cupolas soaring up to the sky like so many ladders guiding the prayers of the faithful up to their God?

The complicated Middle East of bygone eras provides a simple lesson for today, one that it sometimes finds hard to follow because it finds itself riddled by deep contradictions and attempts toward religious uniformity. This situation, which has been exemplified by Switzerland on 29 November, 2009 with the adoption of a law prohibiting the construction of minarets on its soil, risks promoting a rejection of the "other" and the unconditional right to pray as one chooses.

The incident would be trivial if it were not, in a sense, tragic. It is difficult to fathom how Switzerland, a country that prides itself in its centuries-old neutrality, could feel that its existence and culture are threatened by the construction of minarets. Regardless of the factors inspiring the bill, many feel its results primarily expressed a rejection of Islam and the right of Muslims to practice their rites freely wherever they live.

However, the Swiss referendum results do not only affect Muslims, although they are its main victims. It also risks institutionalising the so-called "clash of civilisations", leaving it up to citizens, or their elected representatives, to decree lifestyles and mindsets as a function of demographic majorities.

With this type of reasoning, a ban on the construction of minarets in countries where non-Muslims constitute the majority could also apply to the construction of churches or synagogues in Muslim-majority countries. In this regard, ethno-religious uniformity and viewing religion as a monolith risks reviving the post-Reformation concept of one people, one country, one religion, in which the ruler's religion determined that of a country's.

The absurd application of this principle is responsible for the disappearance of the time when Spain was known for its three religions, when the Jews and Moriscos (Muslims forced to convert to Christianity and suspected of doing so in name only) were expelled at the time of the Renaissance, a move that resulted in the spiritual and material impoverishment of the Iberian Peninsula.

The same principle inspired many a totalitarian regime in the modern era, in an effort to remove any spiritual element that might threaten their rule. The same principle is again at work today in many regions of the planet where being a member of a minority is synonymous with inequality.

Those who reject the construction of minarets in Switzerland do not realise that they could be viewed in the future like those who burnt synagogues or destroyed churches in what was known as the Fertile Crescent, or elsewhere. It is worth recalling that whenever a community is threatened, be it Jewish, Christian, Muslim, agnostic or atheist, others could be threatened too.

The spiral is now set in motion and could wreak its horrendous effects unless we stand up to reaffirm that the pre-eminent dignity of every human being, and the right for every person of faith to pray to his or her God as he or she sees fit, are not subject to a building permit. The minarets of Geneva are worth as much as the bells of Basel. Now is the time for one and all to remember this.

1) This is the last PPP government and end of PPP’s major role in Pakistan’s mainstream politics.

2) PML(N) may make next “coalition government” with MQM as a major ally. PML(N) has no moral or political edge over PPP but one man – Shabaz Sharif – will be the winning factor. (read again – Shabaz Sharif and not the Nawaz Sharif) PML(N) san Shabaz Sharif – a man with a solid character and undeniable deliverables – will have a same fate as PPP. So they should pray for his health and life.

3) MQM has no danger to get weaker or vanish despite what type of leader they have. His followers are “better” than leader in all arenas where their leader “excel”. So no one can snatch their “Catch 22″ MNA seats – a good enough diving borad for “Muthaida Muhajir” interests. But they should stop day dreaming of ruling Pakistan single-handedly for their heinous past crimes against Punjabis in Karachi. They may not even be able to win a single seat in Punjab despite their current success of winning one in Azad Kashmir by the ballot votes of Kashmiris living in Karachi. (who can even dare to defeat Mafia in their HQ?)

4) Mullas of any type have no future in politics in near future or even in far future. They may win few seats here and there in their stronghold pockets of illiteracy belt areas and these seats will be good enough for their “bread & buttered halwa”.

5) All the above is good until 2016 and 2017 elections will be the “Elections for Change.”

So until then “enjoy” the “intellectual debates” and as Sana coined – “right noises”.

My Comments: I was always highlighting Corruption as a main ingredient of the recipe called Rotten Muslims. It is not only specific to one Muslim country but spread over all Muslim world. That does nor mean it does not exist or is somewhat lesser in non-Muslim world. But the irony is Muslims as flag bearer of Islam were supposed to be role model of Honesty and carrier of high moral and ethical values. Alas, Muslims have stopped following Islam and became a stigma on Islam's fame of a Divine Guidance. They are not themselves not benefiting from Islam but stopping world to benefit from it by portraying themselves as a Nuisance to humanity - "wrongly thanks to Islam". They have betrayed ALLAH and HIS prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by not fulfilling their assigned double roles - practice Islam and become a role model to guide the Nations. We are off the track and how we can ask world to come on track and follow Islam. So more and more Chaos waiting for "Muslim World" and thanks to Muslims for the rest of World. Mankind on decline and arriving on the As fala Safileen (worst of the worst) stage. Any hope? yes, if we all repent collectively (individual and isolated piousness will not work at this stage) and come back on Right Path and then lead the world by Divine Guidance (Quran & Prophet's teachings) so humanity can be saved from disastrous end.

My "non-sense" comments after reading 20 other "sensible" comments in above linked article of my favorite Naveen Naqvi:

I was looking for a solution. Finally found here in your concluding note in reference to DAWN editorial.

*There are no good/bad Talibans. And as Timothy simply suggested kill all Monsters before they kill Pakistan. But for sure, before they are vanished, they will attempt to kill as many Army related personnel and ordinary Pakistanis – how we expect from them to play by book and observe Islamic principles? – it is too naive to expect all this decency from a declared monster. We have declared Islam of Taliban is not the right brand and we also expect them to observe sanctity of mosques when back-lashing to their cleansing program.

*All Jihadis have common agenda so militant groups targeting Kashmir should be also killed (mere disbanding does not work) and their Punjabi cousins (aka Punjabi Talibans) should be drone attacked since they all are supporting each other.

*No one mentioned here, but all Islamic madrassas should be closed immediately across the board since these are nurseries of future sympathizers of militant groups if not go step ahead and join them.

*all the personnel in armed forces or government institutions who have a trace of any soft corner for monsters should be persecuted in Abu Gharib or Gitmo type jails

*All religious leaders who don’t come on TV, same day as any back-lash incident happens, to strongly condemn the monsters should be exiled to a place called Ko Kaf so they can dance with fairies as a practice opportunity before these blessed souls dance in heaven with Hoors.

*If possible, Ata Turk type of Islam should be introduced in Pakistan. Pervaiz Musharraf had a plan but this desire of his was jeopardized by ill-planned 9/11. We should all support Marvi memon who is doing her best for his re-incarnation. So he can come in power once again to fulfill his Ata Turkise Pakistan dream.

All of the above should happen before “strong” Talibans attack me or kill Pakistan. Looks like – Do more – appeals are only being listened by monsters and for Rahman Malik – it is – Do More – Negligence so monsters can penetrate the “most secured” place at their will.

Can we kill Monsters having a Clan ruling us? Of that clan, he is the Shining Star? If someone expects that, then we deserve a place in Fool’s paradise more than a monster deserves.

The choice is ours – to speedy kill the monsters and send them to fool’s paradise or get bomb blasted and reach there before monster arrives.

I am feeling myself very wise after writing this “rant shant” and dying to appear on a TV talk show or at least on LBS(laid back show of faisal kapadia) to spill out my wisdom and impress the nation by my grasp on this grave situation and a way out.

Who said Jokers don’t exist in Chaos time? But they are called “Intellectuals” in crisis time and comment on blogs in free time as ‘Lucky Irani Circus’ is closed due to security reasons.

And Temporal - the wise man - has the right conclusion - right now, sadly, there is no solution in sight to curb this violence.

There is solution - but Temporal - as I know him - is rarely wrong - it is out of sight.

Out of sight, out of mind?

The solution is not with the news reporters, news analysts and all who appear on prime time TV talk-shows.

There are no words to appreciate your courage and positive approach to spread awareness so the handicapped or disabled can also get the same respect and rights as their other normal fellows get. Majority of poor Pakistanis who are even normal by all aspects get the worst discrimination in society and I wonder what is there for an abnormal person who has the double handicap - physical disability & social disability (poverty). You may not have the first hand experience of this double jeopardy. Otherwise, you would have already joined me like @discomaulvi and @FarrukhSiddiqui at Twitter to fight for the real cause of all our social and economic evils - corruption. My slogan is Kutta First - which means first take the Kutta out of water well to purify the water. We are trying all other methods but this one - have a national level repentance and pledge - From now on we will not cheat and deceit our fellow human beings and be loyal and honest with Pakistan's wealth - which we all supposed to share across the board. No one can escape after looting it and depriving us from our basic needs - education, health-care, clean drinking water, jobs on merit and most of all dignity. 28th November started as just another Eid day, with the usual getting together at my cousin’s place where we all meet for lunch (while some look after the sacrifice). Sometime after noon, my father received a phone call and then somehow everything became vague, and pointless…a young cousin had passed away and all I could see was his mother’s face, a beautiful smiling face from what I always recall.
Life is strange and brings with it even stranger experiences – you are busy catching up with life, complaining there is so much to do in such little time, sharing and laughing together with your loved ones, and then you hear about death in a near quarter and life comes to a sudden halt. Something pinches you and reminds you that to God we all must return… but it is often the ‘untimely’ or young deaths that shake you to the core. You are just so not ready for them. And that reminds you that no matter how old a person is, when it is someone from the family, you just cannot bear to let them go. (Click the above Link to read complete blog)

In joy and grief, remember and praise ALLAH. It is not an easy experience to bear a loss of dear one but again we have to remember, that from HIM we came and to HIM we return. Some go earlier than norm but we all are in transit here for a very brief stay. Let us try to make that brief stay very comfortable for each other and help to comfort the one in grief. May ALLAH give patience to the family for such a great loss. But tell them the good news is – we will join the gone one day not far away.

My Comments:

I have the same feeling that if given option to exercise their right to choose, Kashmiris will opt for independent Kashmir. So do Bauchis and Sindhis, if a referendum is held today. We have failed the basis of creation of Pakistan. Now it doesn't matter who wants to live together or struggle for independent minor state which will be strongly supported by many vested interersts. But no one to blame but our people in power and those at helms of our afffairs. Loot, plunder and exploitation have caused deprivation in masses across the board. Bangladesh creation was result of such frustrated feelings and an independent Baluchistan or later a Sindudesh would be on card if a major system change didn't come very soon. It is already too late and lot of irreparable damage has already been done. Wake up pakistanis. Stop corruption and eradicate all those involved in it. Only this way you will let national wealth will reach downtrodden masses and make people willing to commit for Pakistan. This is the only way to keep their hopes for a better tomorrow alive. Long Live Pakistan. Death for Corrupts and Looters.

The title portrays the real dilemma of present days Muslims - performing Haj as mere a ritual. How many 'Hajis' take the Haj back home and practice the desired results in their lives and society? I wish if only 10% of 3 million do this year, it will transform all the Muslim societies. Islam was meant to be a guiding Divine Message for whole mankind but now because of so-called Muslims, it is taken as a threat to world peace. In fact it is not the Mesaage but the astray followers who are to be addressed first so they can be cleared as a hurdle so mankind can reach the real message of Islam and benefit from it. The corruption, nepotism and laziness has marred the muslim societies to be a positive contributor to world peace and progress. They easily blame all others and create conspiracy theories as an attempt to be the victims. If they realize, the wholw world at the moment is their victim and in a constant fear of unpredictable muslim behavior. This Haj and many past Haj of millions will only clear the Haj performers from "their religious duty" but their duty as a Role Model of Islam and a Divine Message carrier require much more. Ponder O'Muslims ponder - you have utterly failed in your designated role - beaconlight of mankind. Come out of the world of darkness before you can even wish to play any role. Otherwise an organised Haj is mere news for media but you as Muslims rarerly appears in good news.

H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman of the Supreme Fiscal Committee, said:

‪‪“Our intervention in Dubai World was carefully planned and reflects its specific financial position. The Government is spearheading the restructuring of this commercial operation in the full knowledge of how the markets would react. We understand the concerns of the market and the creditors in particular. However we have had to intervene because of the need to take decisive action to address its particular debt burden. ‪

“Like most global cities, Dubai has experienced its share of economic and social challenges in this global downturn. No market is immune from economic issues. This is a sensible business decision. ‪“We want to ensure resources are deployed in the full knowledge that they are used to enhance the businesses of the Dubai World Group, build on the restructuring that has already been taking place and ensure long term commercial success. Further information will be made available early next week.”

His Highness pointed out that the unprecedented growth, in Dubai and across the UAE, over the past decade has helped lay the foundation for what is now a broad-based sustainable economy beyond just natural resources.‪ ‪

Continuing HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum said:

“The economic fundamentals, such as our highly developed infrastructure, strong transport and communications hub and regional financial centre will ensure Dubai remains an attractive regional market.”

So what was he actually saying? Some facts from FT:

Emirate has a lot of explaining to do

It came in a short statement about the restructuring of Dubai World, one of the emirate’s biggest and best-known companies, with the big news buried near the end.

But the decision to ask bondholders of the company and its most troubled subsidiary, Nakheel, to extend maturities from December to May 2010 was a bombshell. And the Middle East’s most glamorous and creative emirate will pay the price of its decision for a long time to come.

For months, all indications in Dubai were that the heavily indebted city-state, symbol of the rise of the region as an economic powerhouse as much as of the excesses of the pre-financial crunch days, would meet the obligations of the companies in which it has stakes, and that Nakheel’s $4bn debt due in December would be repaid.

Only a few weeks ago, bankers in the region were so upbeat some had suggested that Dubai might not even need to raise more funds to pay debts due this year.

It helped of course that the emirate was showing signs of recovery, with fewer expatriates packing their bags than expected, retail sales on the rise and the real estate sector beginning to stabilise. The government itself looked confident too, raising $2bn in Islamic bonds last month.

As always, though, the problem in Dubai is that no one had all the facts, and perhaps some in the financial community had made all the wrong assumptions. The whole affair, one analyst told me on Thursday, was “typical of the way things work in Dubai – top down and in a vacuum – and that makes it very difficult for investors”.

True, top officials had indicated repeatedly that Dubai would not default on its debt – and Nakheel, the Palm real estate developer, was assumed to be too important for Dubai’s image. But officials did not explicitly say that the repayments would be made on time.

Moreover, the recent prospectus to test market appetite for government bonds said the government was “not legally obliged” to meet the obligations of related entities – what is commonly referred to as Dubai Inc – but might at its sole discretion decide to extend such support.

Most of the funds raised in the past year – including from Abu Dhabi banks on Wednesday – were by the government itself, rather than individual companies.

So what was Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Dubai’s ruler, up to on Wednesday? Was he indicating, as some suggest, that the government would allow Dubai’s bad companies to suffer in order to save the good ones? Was he simply trying to force the hand of the Dubai World bondholders to buy some time and leave open the option of repaying the debt next month if he had to?

Perhaps Dubai is convinced that as the government of the emirate raises fresh funds and restructures companies related to it, the emirate is consolidating its creditworthiness. Farouk Soussa of Standard & Poor’s says that lending to the government now arguably becomes less risky because it is putting the funds to better use. But he also says this is cancelled out by the lack of transparency.

Whatever the Dubai ruler’s intention, the way Dubai has gone about its financial business has hugely damaged its standing. Bankers and investors are furious, feeling they were led on the wrong path.

Analysts, meanwhile, have been scrambling to reconsider the assessments they had recently made about Dubai. The assumption that Abu Dhabi would always stand by Dubai and its flagship companies is now suddenly seen as unsustainable.

Was this perhaps Abu Dhabi’s way of taking its revenge on Dubai for the excesses of the boom years? I doubt it. The rivalry between the two emirates is less important than the implications of Dubai unravelling. The cost of insuring Abu Dhabi debt went up on the Dubai announcement.

It has to be remembered that many of Abu Dhabi’s companies are exposed to Dubai, having been some of the most enthusiastic investors. Whatever Dubai is up to, assuming there is some big strategy, it should have explained itself before raising the prospect of default. Yesterday’s belated statement was hardly adequate. It needs to do a lot more explaining before more damage is inflicted to its credibility.

Time to reconnect

Yesterday was day of Arafat to commemorate the last Haj sermon of Prophet Muhammad(pbuh)where he declared the Magna Carta of mankind - There is no superiorty of Arabas over Non-Arabs - and nor a Brown is superior in race over a Black - the only criteria of being superior is the one who has the most fear of ALLAH. The question is how much of this golden principle is followed by mankind or even by his so-called followers - Muslims. Mankind has long stopped to follow the Divine Guidance and Muslims - most of them - has also went astray. The chaos in world is the poetic justice for ignoring ALLAH and HIS guidance. ALLAH is not in our lives as HE should be as a #1 on our priority lists. HE is somewhere there for blessing seeking but HE is not there ruling our lives. We are so much sunk in the worldly affairs that there is no time or very little time left for our Creator and to WHOM we have to return and will be accountable for our deeds.

The time has come to reconnect with our Creator and HIM being the prime focus of our lives so we can make all decisions in our lives as HE has guided. The mankind is on verge of destruction due to absence of ALLAH in our lives. All the evils in our present setup have touched the peak and chaos is on boom world over. The people are suffering and hmanity is suffering and in fact bleeding profusely for only one reason - we have lost our connection with the Creator. Now we are like a ship which has no direction and may hit a iceberg any time for total disaster.

The simple remedy for all our problems is to restore our connection with our Creator; start following HIS directions - that is the only way of survival; only way to come out of present chaos in our lives and world over.

Give ALLAH the position and respect HE deserves. Seek HIS forgiveness by repentence and pledge to be never astrayed again from The Straight Path shown to us. Yes, we are given option to be on it for our own benefit or reject and find one of our own. We are lost finding one. There is no alternate for mankind - but ALLAH and HIS STRAIGHT PATH.

Let's join together and have a colective repentance and follow HIM for a better today and the best tomorrow. The FAJAR call gives witness to this call. ALLAH is great - Muhammad is his Prophet - Come for Salah - Come for Falah!

I wrote this article back in 2001 when a colleague (Abu Waleed)mentioned he watched Judie Fosters' movie - Silence of Lambs. He mentioned that he liked the title of movie - Silence of Lambs - and it truly fits on Muslims and since he was an Arab explained me in context of Palestinian's pathetic condition. He asked me - Meer! you write very good Letters (both Business and Letters to Editors) why don't you write one article on "Helpless State of Palestinians" (how they claim we don't have one?)and silence of all Muslim countries except media statements for proxy condemnation of Israel's non-stop atrocities since 1948. The next day he came and was very excited about the title - especially this part - Dances of Wolves and Silence of Lambs. Recalled there was a movie titled - Dances of Wolves also. He is still enjoying the English movies and all what is in English movies. Nothing has changed but to worse for Palestinians and Muslims on Globe. The only favor Globe does is by not throwing all Muslims en masse in nearby seas and Oceans. Hai jurm e Zaeefi ki saza - murg e mufajat!

Reading your piece and comments, it seems all of us including the experts quoted by you know the roots of the Afghanistan crisis. How it all started? Who created Talibans? Who strengthened them and used them for their own agendas? How these talibans turned Frankenstein? How cruel, rigid and militant are these Talibans - both Pakistani brand and the original Afghan Pushtoon Talibans? How and why America got involved in "Jihad" against USSR and how and why Jihadis were recruited from all over the world to defeat cold war enemy #1? How this Jihadi mess was left uncleared as Hilary admits? How these Jihadis turned Frankenstein and dreamed and planned for so-called Islamic renaissance by violence? How 9/11 happened and America has to come back to punish "good boys" turned bad boys? How America is facing another Vietnam? How the blame game is on for face saving from the failures? How the mistrust among all players is flourishing by ever increasing deception and betrayal? All the experts are there advising based on their past involvement and experience - what each party should do and what not to do? How our fugitive easily crosses border and reach Afghanistan and how the fugitives from their side are dispatched to Quetta and then for strategic reason to safe haven of Karachi? Where are all the arms stored by these militants and from where they get training and money? The militant is one eyed or two eyed and biggest threat to a state is an illiterate ex-chair-lift operator?

The all above how weird it sounds is a mere history of a patient, the diagnosis of the disease and various prescriptions by various doctors and even some quacks if they have luxury of media or web access.

But what is the real cause of this Chaos and similar chaos in present world? What should be done for a lasting peace on this planet by allowing co-existence of all human beings by fairly sharing the bounties of nature?

This is the real question which needs an answer and in-depth study and discussion. An honest answer is the solution for this Chaos and similar ones where humanity is bleeding with wounds caused by deception for self-interests.

Until we spot the culprits and then start calling a spade a spade, it is like watching a movie named Chaos Unlimited with a message Part 2 is under production and soon will be released.

I see no immediate cure of bleeding wounds as long we don't spot who is causing them and who in the name of treating them is only making them more deep and blood is all flushing out.

What lacks is Sincerity? Sincerity by all parties to solve the issue. The deception and betrayal will enhance mistrust and flare up chaos. We need to get rid of our individual or national agendas but focus on one agenda - Humanity is in turmoil and on danger of perishing for ever, we have to save it by eradicating ignorance and arrogance - by eradicating exploitation and oppression of fellow human beings. This requires Wisdom and not intellectualism - this requires sincerity and not the knowledge which gives you more power to unjust.

And in nutshell - what will happen? - the more and more of this Chaos because there are Cooks (read Crooks) out their spoiling the broth. We or sure are sick since allowing these Cooks to continue with their recipe of disaster. Moreover, those few of us who realize we are sick - unfortunately under the treatment of "doctors" who are in fact quacks and most of them sick themselves. The tragedy of our Time - our Messiahs in all walks of our life are sick themselves. (Malik Nadal of Fort Hood is one small example)

All this present a scene of "tragic comedy" - comedy of errors. But humanity will learn but in hard way and by suffering more and more pain. The reason - we ignore and suppress the just voices and make sure - No one also listens them.

So what you hear all over the Media is - Noise; this noise also includes the shrieks of those losing their limbs or lives in bomb blasts.

Last but not the least, Naveen; you are doing a great job by bringing up these burning issues in a very pleasant way. Keep up the good work. This will contribute to shift paradigm and make new mindset which will welcome the much needed - CHANGE.

My duas and ALLAH's blessings with you. I have an intuition that we will work together and as we always hear "to do something for Pakistan". WE can't work to better someone or some institution, as long we are not needed or welcome. My friends remember, I always say that things will get more worse and more miserable for all in Pakistan until they will start screaming - iL iman - il-Iman - then repent collectively and pray and work for CHANGE. Allah never changes fate of any nation, until they change (or at least have a desire) to change themselves. So keep on doing your best whatever you are doing. Before Allah gives us any task, we have to qualify for it and those who have to benefit from you and your services need to qualify to deserve it. They will in few years time. :)

President Zardari will continue in power despite all odds. Nawaz Sharif may win next election due to poor performance of PPP while in power and Kamran Shafi Sb will be also happy that his at least one national wish has been fulfilled.

When hopes of pakistanis will be fulfilled? Only when they will change the hearts and mind of their own and all around. All have to be honest and sincere with Pakistan and contribute their best for the betterment of people. My intuition says things will worsen to the worst before they start improving. This could be five to seven years period depending when all of us repent and start “joint repair” of Pakistan as a missionary or revolutionary cause. But the current turmoil will prolong and get more worst as we out of fear or hypocrisy have stopped calling a spade a spade in all walks of life.

So there will be more and more of debates for the sake of debates at all forums and mere talk never walks. The hearts and minds of people need to be taught – self discipline. Where is our Leader who can motivate people to do first a collective repentance and then march on for better Pakistan.

So stay put for next two terms. Zardari to complete and Nawaz to come and people’s miseries to multiply. I believe Pakistanis deserve that since most of us are selfish and our own interests are first. All complain and cry for Pakistan but content with present condition and as Faisal Kapadia mentioned no one ready to act; so let’s continue talking in a philosophical way on all TV talk shows with breaks for Breaking news of another blast. This is a sorry state but written on the wall and our connivance, cowardliness and selfishness brought us to this stage and will go miles down the road until a big wake up stumble – separation of East Pakistan was easily forgotten.

Make a slogan – PakPakistan – a corruption free Pakistan will be the New Pakistan – the whole world is waiting more eagerly to see than Pakistanis themselves. The Corruption Free pakistan is an Idea whose Time has come but we Pakistanis are doing our best to Delay the Time. Any further delay will be a Lost Opportunity and lost of Hope of Better Future. Our survival as a Nation depends on this single factor – To be Corrupt or not to be Corrupt – which will also decide – To be a beggar or not to be a beggar. Corruption at all levels of helm in power and in spheres of our system as forced us to be International Beggars and the satire is we need Alms with Dignity. KLB conditions challenge our Dignity and Sovereignty. Where are all these high morals and ethics when an out of law – NRO – can give mercy to all Thugs? We have more of KLB type humiliation if we keep on blessed pardoned NROs among us.

NN – We will never reach Solutions, if we don’t have a big picture of – Canvass of Chaos – the Chaos created by “MufSiddeens” and then crying wolf – Islamists & Militants have come.
US is not on a high moral ground as they claim to save “their great civilization” but a COOK which has spoiled the broth by using a Recipe – Recipe of Disaster and Destruction. (LA TAfsidu fil Ardh Qalu! ina ma Nahno Muslihoon – truly applies on them)

I feel very honored receiving your response. I agree that Musharraf will not quit may be until his share of 'mangoes will not explode'. As far as Zardari and his team's performance is concerned it is not different from any past government. The whole system is not only in a standstill but fast decaying. I sent the following as a suggestion to bring this country out of present chaos. Can you pursuade in your column to ask Mr. Musharraf to go on an extended Leave (vacation) if he still believes his quitting will harm the country more than his presence eventhough a latest survey shows 86% of pakistanis believe he should quit. As our leaders become deaf when they are in power, he will not do that. However, he can be pursuaded to go on an eight months (one month for each year in power) and resign if things really improve in his absence and comeback if 51% of Pakistanis in future surveys support his return. This overseas vacation should be fully expensed by public exchequer like all his previous foreign trips.

I believe this is the only peaceful and win-win proposal to get out of the present no-where go situation.

ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday The News had reported that the former prime minister and billionaire, Shaukat Aziz, had walked away with bulging suitcases full of 393 state gifts bought at pawn shop rates. We stand corrected. It has transpired that the gentleman had actually taken 736 gifts worth price) with him on his last bye-bye Pakistan flight to London. The state booty included half a dozen more necklaces, 18 kt gold, gold coins, pearls, crowns, diamonds, Rolex watches, bracelets, carpets, Chinese pandas (presumably figurines because the list does not elaborate) etc after getting them massively undervalued by the obliging Cabinet Division evaluators.This has been revealed in the revised and updated final figures pertaining to the foreign gifts retained by the former prime minister during his three years tenure-mostly free of cost and some by paying only token money.One sources said, the total value of these 736 gifts, whose total price keeping the importance of those gifts given by the heads of foreign countries in the open market view, would easily be over Rs100 million, but it was priced at Rs25 million so that one of the richest prime ministers of our history with Rs7 billion declared assets with Election Commission of Pakistan could retain them free of cost.The new consolidated list reveals that Mr Aziz only deposited three gifts with the Toshakhana and took rest of 733 with him in his heavy suite boxes on his flight to London in the first week of January 2008, to decorate his multi-million dollars residences in London, Dubai and USA. The second part of this official plunder and loot of the state assets by Mr Aziz is more shocking, as the official documents revealed that the self-proclaimed “Mr Clean” even got one scarf, gifted by Governor Nepal priced only at a laughable price of Rs25 and retained it free of cost. One cannot even buy a local made Pakistani scarf from the Lunda Market at this price.As if the under valuing of this scarf was not enough, the fresh list of his total gifts shows that Mr Aziz got a jewelry box given by Prince of Wales Charles and Her Royal Highness Duchess of Cornwall gifted during their visit to Pakistan, priced at only Rs2,000 (14 pounds sterling). The royal couple would surely die of shame if they ever come to know the ëreal’ worth of their gift. The fresh list showed that four ball points purchased from the elitist London shopping store Harrods were priced at Rs200 each (one and half pound). During his visit to China, a jewelry box (Najeonchilgi lacquerware inlaid with Mother of Pearl) gifted to Mr Aziz was priced at Rs6,500 only and he retained it free of cost.Interestingly, during his reign, Mr Aziz used to claim that he did not take the salary from the Government of Pakistan so as not to put any burden on national kitty. But now it has surfaced that it was more preferable for this nation to pay him monthly salary of about Rs100,000 (Rs3.6 million in three years) instead of free gifts worth Rs25 million (official rate.Mr Aziz soon after becoming the prime minister had visited Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah along with the brigade of his loyalist ministers, secretaries and officials — who are now understandably mum —with the tall claim that he had paid the expenditures from his pocket. But, later the National Assembly was informed in the question hour that honourable PM Aziz had lied to the whole nation as over Rs10.87 million were paid to him from the government accounts. His claim to pay the Umrah expenditure only proved to be a deceptive publicity stunt.Mr Aziz even got one gift of jewelry set given by state minister of sports Sudan priced at Rs35,00 only, pair of lady shoes for Rukhsana Aziz Rs2,000, secretary communication also gave one gift of Longines watch No l4 70943349102 valued at only Rs25,000. One crown given by ambassador of Korea was priced at Rs9,000 and given to Mr Aziz free of cost.The sources said a special method was evolved to facilitate Mr Aziz as the prices of many foreign gifts were even priced equivalent to pirated editions available in Pakistan. For example, two CDs given by prime minister of Norway were priced at Rs200 each while in the Western markets, one original CD is available at minimum rate of 30 pounds. One cannot even buy a CD from the loot sale of big stores at the price at which Mr Aziz got it evaluated. Likewise, the necklace pearl given by PM Bangladesh was priced at shocking price of Rs10,000. One tea set by Begum Khalida Zia was priced at Rs5,000. Dagger in gold was valued at Rs129,200, one sword by Duma Mossco was priced at Rs4,000, one necklace given by prime minister of Sri Lanka Rs5,000. Two lockets of gold and diamonds given by prime minister of Sri Lanka was priced at Rs14,700. One sword by crown prince of Bahrain was Rs9,000 and once necklace (pearl) Rs15,000. The King of Saudi Arabia gave Aziz second costly gift of one gold jewelry set, diamond, ruby, one necklace, one bracelet, pair of ear rings and one ring valued at Rs3.2 million. Mr Aziz took it with him to London.Council of Qattar International Islamic Bank tried to match the generosity of the Saudis as it gave Mr Aziz one wrist watch Rolex Rs13,00,000, wrist watch Epos Rs65,000, Ball point Harrods Rs800, two green/gold pens Rs600 each, four ball points Harrods Rs250 each, perfume deep Rs1,500, sword by prince Abdul Aziz Saud Chairman Watan Group Rs19,750. Higher Education of UAE gave wrist watch Piaget Rs375,000, wrist watch chopard Rs120,000, Chairman Capital Investment Overseas Abu Dhabi, gave one wrist watch Rolex 1.2 million and Mr Aziz is wearing it these days. President of UAE also gave generously when be gave one gents wrist watch Rolex Rs0.5 million. Azerbijan deputy prime minister gave one gold commemorative coin which was also kept by Aziz free of cost instead of giving it to the Government of Pakistan. President of UAE gave second gift of one wrist watch Rolex Rs928,000, one table clock Rs40,000, one wrist watch Rolex Rs885,000 and Mr Aziz took them all to London.These expensive gifts were not the end of the long list of expensive gifts Mr Aziz took with him on his last flight from Islamabad to London, as he did not even spare a gift of only Rs25 to retain it what to talk of other expensive gifts.But because of the paucity of space, the shocking details of those gifts cannot be reproduced in these columns otherwise, Mr Aziz turned out to be one and the only prime minister in the history of Pakistan, who was given 736 gifts and except only three, he took away all the remaining with him. Yesterday I was reading Shireen Mazari's article in The News and she mentioned of Pakistani origin French dress designer - Mahmood Bhatti.

"Appointment of political envoys, a questionable tradition when it becomes the norm rather than a means of recognising exceptional talent such as Dr Lodhi, has gone into the area of the bizarre with the new trend of putting in political appointees even as first secretaries. Now we have the ridiculous situation of sending in a Grade 20 DMG officer as an envoy to France – a position normally reserved for one of the most senior diplomats. But there is a darker agenda here that now seems to be becoming more obvious: the sale of Pakistan House. For some time now the designer Bhatti has been seeking to purchase this and it has been rumoured that the present leadership is keen to sell this valuable property. So is it a mere coincidence that the DMG gatecrasher is a close friend of Mr Bhatti? There are many other rumours also linked to this gentleman, and they will eventually surface. Suffice it to say that in an environment when democracy is merely a facade for a civilian autocrat, the 'right' familial connections are becoming the ultimate criteria for rewards at the expense of the state and nation."

Mooda Bhatti (Mooday - as we called him) was a spoiled student of Government College of Science, Wahdat Road way back in 1973-1977. He was expelled from college for being caught playing "Flash" right on the roof of college principal. He appeared as a private student for BA exam and cleared it "miraculously" without any class attended in his 4 years college stay. Later he left for France and the rest is a rags to riches story - how from a garments factory cleaner he became factory owner. Now he wants to buy a prime real estate in Paris currently owned by Pakistan at a throwaway price - thanks to the connections he made over in Pakistan with his money and fashion shows. These also helped him to get prestigious "Sitara i Imtiaz". Bhatti Saab lage raho and get Pakistan House dirt cheap to convert it to a hotel in partnership with your so called papa - Hashwani saab. Who said Pakistan is self-sufficient in greed and self-projection at the cost of damaging the interests of Pakistan?
